The humidor uses an engineering technique, as employed in the operation of a Bascule type bridge, where the leaves pivot on a fixed axis. It is constructed using three trays or layers, each fixed with their own Dunhill humidification devices. The trays are connected together by a series of polished rhodium-plated bars that pivot on elevated legs on each side. Using the bascule bridge principle, as the lower tray is opened, the other two trays automatically open to counterbalance the humidor. The design inspiration for the Normandy Bridge Humidor was the the bridge that crosses the Orne Canal, in Normandy, called the Pegasus Bridge.
